Ring Ring

Vin shifted closer to Ezra, spooning up behind him under the sheet as they lay together in bed. There was something special about waking up before his lover and stealing a few minutes to just watch him sleep.

Unable to resist the softened, unguarded lines of Ezra's face, Vin leaned closer, intending to steal a kiss. Before he could, high-pitched music filled the room.

Ezra jerked awake, eyes wide as he oriented himself. "Damn it!" He scrambled out of bed and grabbed his cell phone. The music stopped. "Standish," he answered, voice curt. He listened for a few moments. "We'll be there. I would like to take this opportunity, sir, to lodge a protest at the obscene hour of the morning at which you have seen fit to..." He held the phone away from his ear and stared at it. "He hung up on me."

"What's going on?"

"Torleson is moving the guns early. Our fearless leader has called a meeting and he wants us there ten minutes ago." Ezra walked back over to the bed and stole a kiss from Vin. "Morning."

"Morning," Vin replied. He got out of bed and began to get dressed while Ezra busied himself in the bathroom. "Hey, Ez?"

"Yes?"

"Did you change the ringer on your phone?" He'd recognized the tune even though he couldn't put a name to it.

"No, I did not."

"It sounds different. That's not what it was before."

Ezra sighed. "I made the mistake of lending my phone to JD for a moment, and when he returned it to me, I discovered that the little bastard had changed the ringer on it and somehow locked it in place. I can't change it."

Vin grinned. That sounded like JD. Ezra really should have known better. "What's the song?"

Ezra's answer was so badly mumbled that Vin couldn't understand him.

It had to be bad. "Could you repeat that?"

"Material Girl!" Ezra's voice was thick with loathing.

Vin started laughing. He knew it was a mistake and he didn't want to, but it just welled up within him, undeniable, irresistible.

Ezra appeared in the doorway to the bathroom, hands on his hips. "It isn't funny."

Vin tried to shake his head, to show his agreement that no, it wasn't, but he was laughing too hard to get anything out. He sank down on the bed and closed his eyes, blocking out the sight of his indignant lover.

"Vin!"
