Disagreements

It had been interesting, to say the least. And strangely unsettling. Even if he would be the first to admit that those burning green eyes and stubborn set of the strong jaw had also been incredibly sexy, Vin had no intention of telling a certain Southerner that he was cute when he was angry. He valued his teeth too much for that.

But nevertheless Ezra was really mad at him. There was no doubt about that. He had even gone so far as to inform Vin of the situation. In a clipped, cold tone.

"Mistah Tannah, I find mahself to have a less than favourable impression of you right now."

At least he thought that meant Ezra was mad. Heighten the emotional distress and the ratio of five dollar words just shut through the roof. But the body language was not to be mistaken. And the fact that Ezra was sitting at the opposite end of the saloon from him, not once looking up and Vin's way. It was unsettling, indeed. Finishing his beer, Vin pondered over just why he felt so bad over the whole thing. It wasn't like they were really serious...just playing around. But he still felt an incredible need to set things straight with the gambler. Mouth thinning into a determined line, he got up from his chair and made his way over to Ezra.

"Ya mind telling me just why yer so upset with me?"

That came out wrong, Vin realised. He had intended to ask the small con man what had crawled up his ass and died, but apparently his mouth and mind had parted ways as of lately.

Ezra crossed his arms over his chest and glared up at him. "You really have no idea, have you? Well," he shrugged and started to move past Vin. "That's a shame."

"Oh no, ya don't." A strong arm prevented the Southerner from moving any further. "Yer stayin' here and yer tellin' me what's goin' on."

"Ah will do no such thing!"

"Yeah, ya will." Vin's stoic answer did not lessen the green eyed glare he was receiving. Things hadn't been the same between them since the return from the Seminole village. He liked to think that they had dealt with Ezra's near running out on them, and the obvious disagreements between the Southern con man and Nathan, before returning to the town. Apparently not, by the look of things. Calmly meeting Ezra's eyes, he waited.

"We can stay in here all day long," he mildly told Ezra. "Or ya can tell me what's goin' on. It's up to you."

Green eyes narrowed. "Ah regret to inform you, Mista Tannah, that that does not seem to be the issue here..."

Something clicked in the Texan's mind. He sighed heavily.

"Ya heard me, didn't you? Well, ya could have let me explain..."

"Ah was somewhat indisposed as you might remembah." The tone was decidedly icy now. "You will have to excuse my lack of mannahs...getting thrown in jail will do that to you."

"The James incident." Vin tilted his head to one side, resulting in the rush of long, wavy locks over the side of his face. Impatiently tucking them behind an ear, he looked apologetically at Ezra.

"I wasn't going to leave ya in there, Ez."

"Really." The word was as dry as the desert plains outside town.

A calculating look came over the Southerner. "Well, it all turned out for the best in the end though. Mistah Larabee came to mah rescue and extricated me from that cumbersome location... Ah really must thank him for the favour."

"I ain't going with him to Tascosa."

"How nice for you."

"Neither are you."

"Why would Ah possibly want to go to Tascosa with Mistah Larabee?"

"That's not what I meant! Ya ain't going nowhere with Chris!"

"Ah believe the word is question would be `anywhere', and Ah believe Ah will go anywhere Ah please, with anyone Ah please."

"Yer tryin' to make me jealous, aren't ya."

The time the icy glare came equipped with a raised eyebrow.

"In contrast to what you may think, Mistah Tannah, mah world does not revolve around your scruffy looking person."

Shaking his head, Vin grabbed hold of Ezra's arm. "Come on."

The gambler was having none of it. "Where are we goin'?"

"I am goin' to make yer world revolve around me!" With that said, he yanked on the smaller man's arm, dragging him towards the entrance of the saloon, much to the amusement of the saloon's guests.

"Just don't kill him, Tanner, ok?" Buck hollered, figuring the same as the rest, that the two had some differences to sort out. "He's kinda entertaining to have around."

Before Ezra could come up with the right, biting remark for the tall, dark haired gunslinger, he was unceremoniously hauled out of the door... And straight into the honourable Judge Travis.

"Gentlemen." The judge gave them a curious look. "Is everything alright?"

"Uh..." Not even close to his usual calm, collected persona, Vin opened his mouth to speak and closed it when he realised that he had no earthly clue as to what to tell the judge. "We're..."

Ezra came to his rescue, smiling.

"Mistah Tannah was in a hurry to show me something, Judge. Ah must apologize for him not making sure that there weren't anyone in his way before he came barrelin' out of the establishment."

"Right." The judge didn't look entirely convinced, but let it go. "I am afraid that will have to keep for later though. I require your presence in the saloon, along with the others." Stepping around them he entered through the batwing doors. Vin took the opportunity to turn and give Ezra a questioning glare. And was met with a dazzling, although satisfied smile.

"Ah didn't tell him just what it was you were goin' to show me."

The Southerner then elegantly made his way free of Vin's hold and went back into the saloon, leaving Vin staring after him.

"You planning on staying out here or are you coming in?"

Chris' words shook him out of it.

"I'm comin'!" Vin grumbled. Pushing past Chris, he ignored the smirk on the blond's face and went to the chair next to Ezra's.

"Why, Mistah Tannah, what took you so long?" the familiar drawl greeted him.

Vin looked up to meet Ezra's eyes. "Just ya wait," he mouthed.

The look in the green eyes told him that Ezra had no intention of waiting for anything.

"Yer not still mad at me?" Vin tried.

Ezra looked thoughtful. Then he smiled. "No. But Ah do intend to make you work for it."

Ducking his head to hide his blush, Vin decided to extract revenge on the smiling Southerner as soon as possible. Moving his hand to land on a muscular thigh he grinned over the slight jump his action provoked. After all it was no time like the present.
